Admissions

Reception Applications

Over-subscription Criteria

Places will be allocated to pupils who have a statement of SEN or EHC plan that names the school as appropriate provision. When there are more applications for places than there are places available, priority will be given in the following order:

I. Children in public care or previously in public care but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, residence/child arrangements order or special guardianship order (see page 248 for full definition)

II. Pupils with a brother or sister continuing at the school at the time of admission of the child.

III. Pupils who live closer to the preferred school than any other school.

IV. Other pupils. Tiebreaker If the admission number is exceeded within any criterion priority will be given to those who live closest to the school.

Mid-Year Applications

Schools are unable to offer places direct to parents for their children.  School places are allocated by Northamptonshire County Council (see above for contact details).  They also maintain any waiting lists for individual schools.

Nursery Applications

Barry Nursery is attached to the Primary School and provides 64 places for children prior to their entry to school. Our main aim is to provide children with a high quality, Early Years experience, before their admission to Reception Class. Children are eligible for a free Nursery place in the term after their third birthday, subject to availability of places. Pupils will be admitted at the age of 3+ using the criteria set out in this policy.

Admission Limit

Barry Nursery has an admission limit of 32 places in the morning sessions and 32 places in the afternoon sessions.

Admission Criteria for 32 Places

Admission arrangements for the Nursery are determined by the Governing body. Parents should register an interest for a nursery place for their child by contacting the School Office and requesting a Nursery Application form or by downloading this from the school website. Applications can be made at any time in the school year and children will be placed on a waiting list. Parents will be notified of an offer of a place at the earliest opportunity.

Children will be admitted to a school nursery for free nursery education on the relevant term following their third birthday, subject to availability of places. Children below eligible age will not be admitted.

The staff aim to meet with you and your child prior to a Nursery place being given to ensure the suitability of our provision for your child. We will always offer the parent the opportunity to visit our setting.

If the Nursery is oversubscribed, once eligibility is established we will then offer places to children taking into account the additional priorities below:

Priority 1 - (a) 'Children in public care' or fostered under an arrangement made by the Local Authority for

                (b) Children who are the subject of a Child protection Plan.

                (c) Pupils with an Education Health Plan which names Barry Primary School Nursery as the most                                  appropriate provision to meet the child's needs

Priority 2 - Children with older brothers or sisters, who will be at school at the start of the academic year and are living at the same address.

Priority 3 - Children of parents who live nearest school nursery. If two children match in distance then they will be taken in date order, oldest first.

Even if you meet the criteria for nursery, this does not mean that you will automatically be offered a place in Foundation 2 when you apply to the school.
