Year 4 - Dr Seuss and Zephania

Summer Term

This term we will be looking at Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Looking closely at how the four operations relate to each other. Children will be problem- solving using these concepts to secure their knowledge.

Our class read for this term, will be When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr.  We will then use the video stimulus ‘So good to me’ to write our own losing tales.  We will become familiar with the structure of a losing tale using the following language features; third person, coordinating conjunctions, Expanding ‘ing’ clauses and The more, the more sentences.

Number Target Card

In art we have been looking at Spanish artists such as Antoni Gaudi, Dali and Picasso.  We then create Mosaic pictures and Picasso portraits.

In geography we are going to use maps and atlases to understand Spain’s location. This will include learning about life and culture in Spain and Barcelona.

In science we are investigating Sounds.  We will begin looking at how we hear, looking specifically at how vibrations travel into the ear canal until they reach the eardrum, the middle ear bones (the hammer, the anvil and the stirrup), inner ear (Cochlea), the hearing nerve to the brain.  We will also have the opportunity to make our own musical instruments linking to design and technology.

In Music, we are going to learn some basic ukulele playing skills and develop these to accompany ourselves singing some songs.
