Year 3 - Euclid and Fibonacci

This term in Year 3 ...

Tuesday, 20th and Thursday, 22nd of October.  Parents Evenings, book your session through SchoolPing.

Friday 23rd October.  Last day of Autumn Term 1.  Half Term Holiday.

Monday, 2nd November.  Start of Autumn Term 2.


This term we will be revisiting place value to ensure the children are confident in hundreds, tens and ones. We will also look at addition and subtraction.

In English, the children will be exploring different texts, including –

  • The Door by Miroslav Holub
  •  The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

In History and Geography, the children will be studying the Ancient Egyptians and thinking about how different civilisations lived.  They will use clay in design technology to make their own canopic jars. In Science the children will be looking at skeletons and muscles and thinking about how they work and why they are important to have. We will be learning about Hinduism in religious education.

Our Homework

  • 10 mins Daily Reading.  Please remember the children need to make a note of any reading done at home in their blue comment book.
  • Weekly spelling words.  Children should practice these at least 4 times per week. They will be tested every Monday.
  • Maths Target cards (see above).  Please encourage weekly practice of these.

PE Days

PE is on Thursday.

Please ensure correct kit is worn all day.

Swimming is on Tuesday.

Please provide  a towel, a swimming  costume or swimming trunks.  All children MUST wear a swimming cap.  NO goggles allowed.

Additional Support

Children could also:

  • Complete activities on our Barry Primary website.
  • Practice the year 2 spellings and target cards that were sent home. These were highlighted with the ones that the children got correct.

Class Read

This term in Year 3 we will be reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. There will be lots of discussion as a class too.
